We are located at 311 Main Street East in the town of Listowel, ON. Originally built as a Baptist church in 1888 the building was bought in 2000 by Justin and Stephanie Webster, with the vision to bring live theatre to town.
They did an amazing job transforming it from a functioning church to a charming viable fully licensed 123 seat theatre. The sight lines are great, the lighting and sound deliver professional results all in an intimate setting with the original features of the church being preserved and highlighted. Theatre 311 is an ongoing homage to their passion and vision.
For the next 12 years they delivered a wide range of entertainment from dramatic plays to musical entertainment, kids shows to drama camps. 311 has hosted every stop on the entertainment continuum.
Every show and every performance was thanks to the blood, sweat, and the tears and toil of Justin and Stef; and the community was richer for it.
As their family grew along with the demands of work - they're both teachers - and parenthood, they decided to sell.
In May of 2012 the ownership changed hands and the new era started.
As the new owner I am committed to bringing a wide variety of cultural events and entertainment to our community.
I believe that the theatre should be the heart of the community and our doors should be open to anyone and everyone who has a passion to be on the stage.
It has taken me a year and a half to feel comfortable with my role as the new custodian of 311.
Year 1 saw us bring in some entertainment that we hoped would be what the community would support.
Liona Boyd, Yuk Yuks On Tour and Karen Reid and Crossbow were some of my favourite memories from that first season.
This year we are bringing theatre back to the theatre with Miss Caledonia and its Listowel premiere.
I am also launching a new initiative the 'Trust Me Series', a series of concerts. We will be bringing in new acts, some of which you may never have heard of. I'm so convinced that you'll be entertained that if you don't enjoy them, you can leave at intermission and get a full refund. As an extra incentive we will be keeping the price at 15.00 to make it affordable to as many people as possible.
Fred Eaglesmith performs April 26th and that's another musical highpoint for us.
The Haunted House was a huge success in 2012 and will be back with a vengeance this year. That was great fun!
At present we are looking for anyone who has an idea for the theatre.
Our hope is that a theatre guild will develop or some kind of performing troupe and the stage will be theirs.
An in-house program with the working title 'Listowel's Got Talent' is being developed for the spring and we are always looking for more plays to put on stage.
The place is always available for rental for anything from weddings to corporate events. Just contact us and we'll help make it happen.
It really is an honour to be part of this great place and my goal is to carry on the tradition of excellence Justin and Stephanie established.
Thanks for looking and we hope to see you soon.
All the best, Paul.
